Achievement at the Meadows
Achievement at The Meadows
At The Meadows School, achievement means more than academic outcomes. It reflects our commitment to personalised learning, inclusive practice, and holistic development, ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to succeed in ways that are meaningful to them.
How We Assess Progress
Progress is measured through Personal Learning Goals (PLGs), which are linked to EHCP outcomes and cover:
- Communication and Interaction
- Social and Emotional Wellbeing
- Cognition and Learning
- Physical and Sensory Needs
- Independence and Life Skills
We also use our Meadows Frameworks and Skill Maps to track progress in core subjects, providing consistency across curriculum pathways.
Assessment Across Pathways
Because our learners have diverse needs, we adapt assessment approaches across each pathway:
- Engagement for Life (PMLD): Progress assessed using PLGs, Routes for Learning, adapted MAPP, and the Engagement Model, ensuring a holistic approach.
- Foundations for Life (Complex ASC/SLD): Progress tracked through PLGs and curriculum targets, using a developmental scale (Emerging, Emerging +, Developing, Developing+, Secure, Generalised)
- Learning for Life (SLD) and Options for Life (MLD): Consistent use of PLGs and curriculum targets, with the same developmental scale applied.
- Transition for Life (Sixth Form): Combination of accredited courses (where appropriate) and PLGs, with a strong focus on preparation for adulthood.
Qualifications and Accreditation
While we do not offer GCSEs, our curriculum provides a wide range of accredited courses that celebrate achievement and prepare pupils for adulthood.
- ASDAN Life Skills Challenge (LSC): Entry 1 to Level 1; real-life, functional learning.

- ASDAN Personal and Social Development (PSD): Entry Levels 1–3; focuses on self-awareness, relationships, and community participation.

Pupils in the Engagement for Life pathway do not follow accredited courses but their progress and achievements are captured through holistic and personalised assessment.
Evidence for Learning (EfL)
EfL is our central platform for capturing and sharing pupil progress. Staff record evidence such as photos, videos, and observations linked to PLGs. This enables:
- Clear alignment between daily learning and long-term goals.
- A shared understanding between teachers, therapists, and families.
- Celebration of personal milestones, however small.
