SMSC & Cultural Capital
SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development) and Cultural Capital
At the Meadows School, we place SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development) and the promotion of Cultural Capital at the heart of our curriculum, ensuring all learners-regardless of need or starting point- are supported to become confident and well-prepared individuals. We recognise that for our learners, access to rich, meaningful experiences must be personalised, purposeful and inclusive.
SMSC development is embedded across all aspects of school life, from curriculum design to daily routines, relationships and enrichment activities. Our learners engage in activities that promote self-awareness, reflection, empathy and understanding of right and wrong. We actively foster social interaction through structured play, peer support, and community engagement, while cultural understanding is developed through celebration days, visits, art, RE and stories from a diverse range of backgrounds.
We are committed to building each learner's Cultural Capital by exposing them to experiences and knowledge that broaden their horizons, develop curiosity, and enhance their personal development. This includes engagement with local places of interest and community groups as well as opportunities to learn about and celebrate British Values, diversity and inclusion in a way that is developmentally appropriate.
Through community links, arts, sensory experiences, themed events and real-life learning, we ensure every learner is supported to develop confidence, resilience and a deep appreciation of the world they live in-helping them to thrive both now and in their future lives.
